The sights of Munich are best seen by walking through the Old
Town in the area bounded by the old city gates, Isartor,
Sendlinger Tor, Karlstor and the Odeonplatz. This is the
Pfarrkirche Sankt Peter (Der Alte Peter), from the top of which
the Alps can be seen. |

The Marienplatz is the heart of the city and the site of the
Neues Rathaus, the neo-gothic Town Hall famous for its carillon.
Tourists line up at noon to see the dancing dolls come out and
dance around as the bells chime the time.

The Neue Pinakothek is a modern art museum featuring a variety
of paintings, sculptures and installations. More classical art
is found at the Alte Pinakothek. Many tourists underestimate the
vast amount of art found in Munich. |

Along Kaufingerstrasse, locals enjoy the spring weather and
the tulips. Spring comes a little late in Munich since it is
relative high in altitude. |

The Viktualienmarkt is a food market dating back to the
beginning of the nineteenth century. There are butchers,
bakeries and vegetable and flower vendors as well as a large
beer garden.

The Deutsche (Science) Museum features displays of natural
history, engineering, technology and aeronautics. It is
found on the Museum Insel (Museum Island) not far from the city
centre. Many of its exhibits are "hands on" and extremely
interesting. Jordan loves it. |
