Historic Florence is a delightful city in which to walk. It's four main areas each have their own distinctive charm. The heart is City Centre North, site of the Duomo, Campanile and Baptistry, City Centre East, site of the Uffizi, Palazzo Vecchio and Santa Croce, City Centre West, site of Santa Maria Novella, and across the Arno River, the Oltrarno, site of the Palazzo Pitti.

Even in May, Florence is full of tourists who marvel over the historical buildings and artistic masterpieces that can be found on every street.

From the hilltop of Piazzale Michelangelo the skyline of Florence unfolds with the unmistakable Duomo dome and the bell tower dominating.

The Uffizi Gallery houses the art collection of the Medici family with works by artists such as Botticelli, Michelangelo, Titian and Giotti.

The Duomo, the Campanile and the Baptistry of Santa Maria del Fiore dominate Florence with its sheer size and its beautiful white, green and pink Tuscan marble.

The Ponte Vecchio (old  bridge) built in 1345, links the Palazzo Vecchio to the Palazzo Pitti via the Uffizi. It is a great place for enjoying the river view, buskers, portrait painters and vendors. Medieval workshops have rear extensions overhanging the river.

The Piazza della Signoria is a unique outdoor sculpture gallery with ancient Roman statues, the Neptune fountain and these reproductions of Bandinelli's Hercules and Michelangelo's David. The original David is safely housed in the Galleria dell'Accademia.
